About Us
Jimmy, as he was known then, began playing guitar at age 11 and began teaching two years later at Columbia Music. He continued teaching through high school at Tri-City Music and performed with his band Utopia (before Todd Rundgren’s band) throughout the Southeast. His Dad often accompanied him because he was too young to get into the clubs they played. Utopia opened for Bob Seger and Ted Nugent and became a staple in local rock and roll clubs. Jim continued his career with the band Roadwork/Nappy Patch. Nappy Patch enjoyed regional success opening shows for James Brown, Heart, Dixie Dregs, Hall and Oates, the Coasters and the Pointer Sisters. They also began recording scores for a National Educational Television production called Studio See. This endeavor led to a long association with Educational Television that continued with Jim’s next band, the Corbett-Urquia Band, which he founded with Susan Urquia. His musical skill and passion for performing always guarantees a good show for any audience.
