Chris Bussell

Chris Bussell (Tenor & Alto Sax, Flute, Vocals)

Chris Bussell is a native of Augusta, GA. Like his mom and all five of the Bussell children, his musical career began in the school band with the saxophone. Chris formed and led his first bands in high school and honed his craft while sitting in at the jazz clubs of Augusta (no one cards a 16 year old with a full beard). Chris ended up in Columbia when he decided to attend the USC school of music. In college, Chris was an original member of the band Shades of Grey who enjoyed some regional success with two albums and opened for bands such as Hootie and the Blowfish, Edwin McCain and Widespread Panic. After graduation, Chris could be seen playing sax and singing with Fatback and the Groove Band, Blue Chip, Flashback, Soulfood and The Other Brothers. Currently, in addition to playing with the Love Handles, Chris plays sax and flute with Columbia band, The Root Doctors (yes, they are still alive). By day, Chris is a middle school band director and lives in Lexington with his wife and two kids.
